Shree Kshetra Kudal Sangam & Shree Harihareshwar Temple
Located in the South Solapur region of Maharashtra, Kudal Sangam (Hattarsang Kudal) is a revered pilgrimage site where the holy rivers Bhima and Sina merge. At this divine confluence stands the ancient and spiritually significant Shri Sangameshwar Temple.
This temple is built in the classic Chalukyan Trikuta architectural style, featuring three sanctums (garbhagrihas) —a rare and splendid example of ancient temple design.
🕉️ A Spiritual Abode for Devotees:The main sanctum houses a majestic Shiva Lingam of Shri Sangameshwar, which draws devotees from far and wide. Despite multiple restorations over centuries, the temple has retained its ancient aura and divine essence.
A unique historical feature of this temple is an ancient inscription carved on a beam in the temple’s sabhamandap (assembly hall). This is considered the first-ever inscription in the Marathi language, dated Shaka 940 (1018 CE) — a proud marker of Maharashtra’s rich linguistic heritage.

Located at the historic site of Kudal Sangam (Hattarsang Kudal), the Shri Harihareshwar Temple is a remarkable monument of ancient architecture and sculptural excellence. Prior to 1995 CE, this magnificent temple lay buried under layers of soil. It was rediscovered through excavation efforts led by Prof. Gajanan Bhide of Dayanand College, Solapur, with the support of the local villagers.
🏛️ A Unique Confluence of Shaiva and Vaishnava Traditions:This temple is celebrated for its harmonious blend of Shaiva and Vaishnava iconography, a rare example in Maharashtra’s temple heritage.
🔱 Twin Sanctums and Grand Design:The intricately carved ceiling of the Swargamandap features celestial maidens (apsaras), gandharvas, kinnaras, yakshas, vidyadharas, divine attendants, as well as a variety of animals and birds, all depicted with stunning craftsmanship.
🕉️ Special Highlight – The Idol of Kalbhairavnath:Within the same hall stands a majestic idol of Lord Shiva in his fierce Kalbhairavnath form, radiating spiritual power and artistic brilliance.
